FCY-302 is a novel inducer of apoptosis in leukemia and myeloma cells.  FCY-302 selectively inhibited the proliferation of cancer cell lines, RPMI-8226, Jurkat and HL-60 by 8-, 9- and 13-fold more compared to normal Vero cells.  FCY-302 decreased the anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 levels and increased pro-apoptotic Bax proteins in leukemia and myeloma cell lines.  Results suggest that FCY-302 inhibited the proliferation of leukemia and myeloma cancer cells by altering key mitochondrial and antioxidant enzymes driving them to apoptosis.
