AC-73 is a specific inhibitor of CD147 through disruption of CD147 dimerization. AC-73 inhibts the invasion and motility of HCC cells but not HCC cells lacking the CD147 gene therb demonstrating on-target action. It also reduces metastasis by by suppressing matrix metalloproteinases (MMP)-2 by down-regulating CD417/ERK1/2/signal tranducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) signalling pathway. AC-73 also attenuated the progression of liver metastasis in an orthotopic nude mouse model. This suggests that AC-73 has potential use in HCC intervention.
